Vasse Felix were briefed in the 1970s by Dr Tom Cullity, Margaret River's founding vigneron, to make the best possible wine. Tom Cullity is the Margaret River flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, the articulation of several decades viticulture at Vasse Felix. Balance, elegance, complexity and restrained power are the hallmarks, the direct result of an uncompromising approach to quality. Among the first estate plantings were Cabernet and Malbec,Tom Cullity is crafted from the fruit of these eminent old vines, the ultimate elocution of Margaret River Cabernet.

Vasse Felix construct a vigorous Shiraz of considerable depth, concentration and solid structure whilst retaining elegance and finesse. Careful fruit selection and an astute use of oak achieve balance and complexity. One of the most satisfying examples of West Australian Shiraz, stylish and distinctively regional. Vasse Felix has the oldest Shiraz vines on the cape, while several slightly younger blocks provide an understated finesse and elegance that is so often lost in the rush to create a Margaret River Shiraz of opulence and power.

For as long as Margaret River has been famous, it has been famous for Cabernet. Vasse Felix is the region's original winery and protagonist of the stately Cabernet Sauvignon genre. A measure of Merlot and Malbec can be added in varying proportions from vintage to vintage, softening the tannin profile and contributing perfumed, floral lift to the beautifully fragrant nose. The structure is fine and firm with a freshness of acidity that makes the mouth water. Rich, dusty tannins support a wine of great power, persistence and length.

The great structural elements of Cabernet Sauvignon are embraced with the dark fruit of Malbec, a collation of superior harvests from the northern parts of Margaret River, the pick of elite blocks, whence optimal ripeness is assured with each and every vintage. The weighty structure and determinedly drying tannins of Cabernet are mellowed by the softness of Malbec, bringing the whole assemblage forward, making Filius, ripe and ready for those anxious aspirants who adore the Margaret River style but are unable to await the distance.

Shiraz grown to the sultry climes of Margaret River is instantly recognizable for its sweetness and power on the palate, as well as the attractive floral, anise and cherry characters which form the body and flesh. Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and length, further defining the tannins and contributing a savoury backbone which constructs a more complete wine. The Cabernet Shiraz vintages of Vasse Felix are legendary, known for their generous palates brimming with sweet red berry fruits, velvet textures and judicious measure of finely integrated oak.

The splendid surrounds and salubrious climes in the lower southwest of Australia's continental rump, yield a quality of Shiraz that's distinctive for its stellar structure and sensational style. Tassell Park is situated in the Treeton Valley, four kilometres east of the township of Cowaramup, hub of the Wilyabrup subregion in Margaret River. This is the heart of the country which has given birth to one of the world's great Cabernet Sauvignon appellations. The Tassell Park property is closely managed by a highly skilled viticultural team who spend many hours tending the vines by hand and caring for the local ecosystem to make it all happen. A brilliant rendition of Cabernet Sauvignon with pronounced varietal character and intense aromatics.

Amongst the on screen romances of varietal wine blends, Merlot would play Bacall to Cabernet's Bogart. Cabernet in its youth can be slightly aggressive and rough around the edges, evolving qualities of earth and tobacco as it matures. Merlot is voluptuous and approachable with sweet aromas and big fruits. On their own they are memorable, but together they are an item. The stylish Margaret River accord of Cabernet and Merlot, with a timely inclusion of the rakish Petit Verdot. The Swings & Roundabouts team purposely leave the fruit to ripen on the vine for the longest time allowed by nature, encouraging the development of fully developed tannins and sugars alongside heightened varietal characters. They then have to fight with the kangaroos over possession of these deeply flavoured grapes. A vigorous red wine to match aged cheddars, stronger cuts of meat or well prepared game.

Streicker make single estate wines of great distinction, from fruit grown to elite sites along Margaret River. Established 2002 by John Streicker after his acquisition of the Yallingup Protea farm and vineyards, the estate now operates two other distinguished sites, the elite Bridgeland and Ironstone Vineyards, with a total of 153 hectares currently under vine. The holy grail of balance of power, balance and finesse in Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon, the finished Ironstone is treated to eighteen months in a high proportion of the finest new French oak barriques.

Streicker's Bridgeland property yields harvests of the finest Shiraz. Crafted to traditional winemaking techniques, a regimen of old fashioned plungings and open ferments, into a pure, single vineyard Rhone style Syrah. A mere 250 cases produced each year, vintage 2009 claimed top trophy at illustrious VISY Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, the first time ever for Margaret River. Its big, blooming bouquet of blueberries, violets and allspice, roast game, graphite and tar, a bliss for those who enjoy the garrulous, savoury styles of truly grand Syrah.

Margaret River is Australia's premier Cabernet appellation and Cabernet Sauvignon is without doubt Margaret River's great vinous endowment. Fine Cabernet should be perfumed yet poised, and meticulous site selection is critical to achieving these qualities. Stella Bella is a mostly Cabernet wine with a third of Merlot, all sourced from several select vineyard sites located centrally around the township of Margaret River and north to Cowaramup, in an endeavour to capture ripe fruit flavours yet retain the distinctive perfume of Margaret River Cabernet.

Another compelling edition in the splendid succession of tremendous vintages Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon, redesigned and relaunched after Sandalford returned to vinifying nothing but their own, exclusively estate grown fruit. These dry grown, forty year old vines are extremely low yielding, translating into wines of power and finesse. Margaret River is realizing it's potential as one of the world's great Shiraz producing regions. Sandalford have lead the way in premium Margaret River wines for over 150 years, fine tuning their regimens from vintage to vintage. The changes reflect modern practices, yet maintain the tradition and mystique behind the winemaking process. A mostly Shiraz wine with a portion of Viognier for aromaticness and complexity, Sandalford still practice small batch processing of all fruit, while insisting on maturation in nothing but the finest selection of oak.

The stylish and hospitable west coast accord of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, from parcels of choice grapes, grown to some of the finest vineyards in Margaret River and Valley Swan. Western Australia's rugged southwest coastline is littered with shipwrecks, the Ringbolt is one of them, sunk in the late 1800s at Ringbolt Bay. Just off Margaret River and adjacent to Cape Leeuwin, within view of the Ringbolt shipwreck, vines planted to sandy, laterite gravel soils within the premier viticultural precinct of Wilyabrup, struggle to grow limited yields of intensely flavoured grapes. Balmy maritime winds and a long slow ripening achieve harvests of fragrantly perfumed berries, for the most splendid vintages of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Redgate property is one of the southernmost vineyards on Margaret River, situated just three kilometres from the Indian Ocean. The family owned and operated wineworks at Redgate create impressive red wines endowed with the characteristic nose and flavour of Margaret River. Bin 588 was first made in 1988 and has always included harvests of grapes sourced from good local vineyards. This stylish cepage of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon is medium bodied with a delicious burst of of ripe dark fruits, plum and blackberry aromas.

A long and impressive history of the most memorable West Australian vintages, including tenures at the eminent Madfish and Howard Park, contributed to the success of Hay Shed Hill. The site itself is fortuitously positioned at the heart of Willyabrup, amongst some of the most renowned estates, where the first vines were planted and the great tradition of Margaret River was born. Pitchfork is an immediately approachable, generously proportioned Shiraz with light oak and gentle tannins, bearing the inimitable stamp of Margaret River.

The signature red wine style of Margaret River, from one of the region's most opportune microclimes. Cabernet Sauvignon for sound structure and good flavour, rich dark berry fruit character and aromatic complexity, is backed by firm varietal tannins. The Willyabrup district is home to Margaret River's most distinguished estates, it delivers a quality of Cabernet that's unmatched anywhere else in Australia. The inclusion of Merlot adds wonderful mid palate fleshiness, achieving a sweet fruit centre and exquiste early drinkability to the wine.

The inaugural vintage at Picardy produced a single Pinot Noir. With each passing year Picardy evolves into an even more dramatic expression of Pemberton's answer to Burgundy. The mix of clones has infused greater interest in the wine, showing greater texture, structure and complexity. A light to medium bodied effort with the presence and taste of a top end Cote-d'Or, Picardy would have to be one of the finest Pinot Noir in the new world. An alluring wine that's almost too easy to drink, its finely grained tannins making it completely approachable while young.

Moss Wood are endowed with the most splendid vineyards. Each block has particular traits which come together in the final assemblage to construct the definitive Moss Wood style. The blocks are literally only metres apart but there are sufficient differences in soil, aspect and altitude for them to show unique flavours. Every section, row by row, of each block is picked separately as it comes into maturity. The youthful generosity of Margaret River Merlot is very appealing and there will be a temptation to consume it young.

A key to the success of Ribbon Vale is an astute understanding of how tannins develop through skin contact and fermentation. Through tasting, the right balance between fruit, tannin and the correct time to press is struck. Merlot is a contrary beast, the goldilocks of grapes and the porridge has to be just right. The inclusion of Cabernet Franc fulfills a long time ambition to, fashion Ribbon Vale in the style of the great right bank wines of Bordeaux. Delicious drinking now, for those who prefer the plump young flavours of Medoc in its youth.

Established 1969 at Wilyabrup, Moss Wood is one of Margaret River's original vineyard wineries. Bountiful harvests are not the priority, the emphasis is on raising the high bar of excellence with every vintage. A precious parcel of Pinot Noir is destemmed into small, open fermenters, plunged thrice daily over the course of a fortnight and pressed into 228 litre French oak barriques for twenty months before assemblage. A Pinot Noir of amazing tannin structure, dominated by red fruit characters and pastoral farmyard notes, earthyness, leather and cherry char.

Exceptional Langtons Classification. Established 1969 by the Pannell family, Moss Wood's Wilyabrup Vineyard is one of the finest and most picturesque in Australia. The winemaking at Moss Wood is all very scientific, countless measurements are taken as refinements and adjustments are made from year to year, attending to the vagaries of mother nature and preserving the unique personality of vintage. The profoundly silky tannins frame a wine of remarkable density and controlled power, exquisite balance and endless length of brightly lit, vigorously perfumed fruit.
